FRESH PRODUCE STRAIGHT FROM YOUR LOCAL FARM
Bringing you fresh, raw milk from our cows, an on-site butchery with meat from our farm, together with the best of local produce: cheese, fruit and vegetables, eggs, bread, jams, pickles, wines & beers, fresh juices and much, much more...
OUR BUTCHERY
The butchery is of huge importance to Charlie's farm shop and we are passionate about the meat we produce.
All of the beef is from the farm and is hung for 21-28 days. Throughout the year we serve our milk-fed pork, the pigs are fed milk and barley to produce a rich and creamy taste, with crackling that just melts-in-the-mouth. Our Rose Veal is also fed milk for up to 7-8 months. The Friesian bulls are reared humanely and Charlie’s farm shop has brought this speciality meat back to the consumer. Sausages, ham and bacon are all produced on site using the highest quality preparation methods.
We like to keep everything local and know our meat suppliers personally, for example when the pork is not our own, it is sourced from Storrington only 5 miles away.
OUR FRESH FISH
Our Mobile Fish Stall, run by Andrew Johnson and his dedicated team at Johnsons Entreprises, is held in the Farm Shop car park every Thursday from 11am until 2pm.
They have a wide variety of fresh fish and shellfish with as much locally caught fish as possible such as 'line caught wild Sea Bass', Dover Sole, Brill, Plaice, Skate Wing, Gurnard, Mackerel, Red Mullet, Grey Mullet, Codling, Whiting, etc.
With often less than 24hrs from the sea to your plate, it's the freshest of fish. Andrew and his staff will prepare your fish for you at the stall, filleting, scaling, gutting etc. to your requirements. The fish van is refrigerated and they bring flaked ice to keep the fish fresh and in tip top condition.
OUR FRUIT & VEG
We sell seasonal fruit and vegetables, so please don’t expect to find fresh strawberries at Christmas.
Where possible we source directly from the producer, thereby shortening the supply chain and ensuring freshness. Our Asparagus is freshly cut and comes from Rogate, a couple of miles away. Nutbourne tomatoes supply our summer tomatoes, the sweetness and flavour are as though you’ve grown them in your back garden. Summer fruits and salads are largely Sussex grown.
OUR WINE & BEERs
We cater for those who are passionate about Sussex produce, stocking wines from the Nutbourne vineyard, including their English sparkling ‘Nutty’, and The Stopham Estate. Both producers grow within 5 miles of Charlie’s. Beers are sourced from the Arundel Brewery, Hepworths and Fauna Brewing. We also stock a wide range of Red’s, Whites and Rose from around the world. Not forgetting ever popular Procecco, Sparking cider from Gospel Green and Stopham. For those who relish local soft drinks, Folkington’s and Ringden juces are just part of our Sussex range.
OUR DAIRY
The Hughes family and Southview Farm dairy herd started milk production in 1919 with a herd of 7 Guernsey cows.
The milk used to be churned and transported to the local train station via horse and cart. The sale of unpasteurised milk and cream began in 1980 by Ian and Julie Hughes to the local villagers and small businesses; this was on a small scale, either from the back of a land rover or collected from a shed and paid into an honesty box.
The Hughes’ are the longest seller of raw milk in Sussex and sell around 400 litres a week.
OUR bakery
A daily delivery from Jengers of Billingshurst stock our shelves. Their light and soft loaves and rolls prove popular with locals. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays we get a delivery from Sødt Bakery in Petworth - they make delicious artisan loaves. Come Sundays we offer Hungry Guest bread for those who prefer a heavier and fuller loaf and also supply scrumptious chocolate brownies.
